Yardley London History 250 Years of English Lavender and Floral Fragrance Heritage:
Yardley London has over 250 years of expertise in fine fragrance and personal care. Founded in 1770 by the Cleaver family, Yardley became one of Britains most iconic soap and perfume houses. Inspired by the natural beauty of English flowers, the brand has always used quality natural ingredients, with English lavender remaining its signature scent.
In the 1850s Yardley showcased its craft at the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park. By the late 1800s it was exporting to the United States and had rebranded as Yardley and Co with headquarters in Londons Bloomsbury.
In 1905 the brand opened a major factory in East London. Just five years later Yardley entered luxury retail with its first boutique on New Bond Street. The 1920s saw Yardley awarded its first Royal Warrant by the Prince of Wales.
In 1932 Yardley created its own unique lavender species still used today grown in Southern England. During wartime production was limited but lipstick sales surged. The 1960s saw the brand partner with British fashion icon Twiggy for iconic beauty campaigns.
In 1972 Yardley sponsored the McLaren Formula 1 team to promote its new mens grooming line. Supermodel Linda Evangelista fronted its 1996 TV campaigns marking Yardleys modern era in beauty.
